Marcellus Shale Task Force

Mission Statement:

"The Pike County Marcellus Shale Task Force is a Commissioner appointed standing committee established in October, 2010 to build capacity for addressing current and future issues and opportunities related to Marcellus Shale activity in Pike County."

TASK FORCE GOALS

  • Create a framework within which the County through planning, education, cooperation, and communication can address issues of concern and opportunities related to Marcellus Shale gas activity in Pike County - minimizing negative impacts and ensuring that positive impacts are fully realized;
  • Provide a communication network;
  • Coordinate education and outreach and serve as a key point of contact for the County on Marcellus;
  • Build capacity and key leadership capabilities to deal with topics such as emergency response, planning, environment, roads and infrastructure, and economic development;
  • Provide guidance to the County Commissioners on Marcellus issues and opportunities;
  • Provide fact-based information for taking action and making effective decisions.

    The Pike County Marcellus Shale Task Force will meet on the following dates in 2012:

    Wednesday, February, 2012 - Time: 1PM

    All meetings will be in the Commissioners Meeting Room, County Administration Building, 506 Broad Street, Milford.

    Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Act - The Pennsylvania Oil and Gas act is administered by the PA Department of Environmental Protection. The act includes bonding requirements, the permitting process, drilling pad location restrictions, and reporting requirements. DEP recently updated the Oil and Gas Act in the areas of cement standards, well casing and reporting requirements.

    DRBC Issues Draft Gas Regulations - The Delaware River Basin Commission released draft natural gas regulations for the Delaware River Watershed in late 2010. Numerous public hearings were held and a public comment period was open until April 15, 2011, resulting in 69,000 public comments. The Commission released its revised natural gas regulations on November 8, 2011, with a vote scheduled for November 21, 2011 at a special meeting of the Delaware River Basin Commission. On November 18, the Commission announced the postponement of this meeting. No new meeting dates have been scheduled.
